1759 när Arthur Guinness var 34 år gammal, hyrde han ett gammalt fallfärdigt bryggeri i St. James Gate utanför Dublin för 450 kronor per år. Kontraktet skrevs på 9000 år! Vart man än kommer i världen är svart öl idag synonymt med Guinness.
