Vad betyder ridgeback?
Det som ger hunden sitt namn, ridgeback är just ”ridgen”. Det innebär att pälsen på hundens rygg växer delvis i motsatt riktning vilket skapar vad som kallas just en ridge där pälsen som pekar åt olika håll möts. Ridge betyder bergsrygg och back betyder att bergsryggen finns på hundens rygg.
När kom Rhodesian Ridgeback till Sverige?
Namnet kommer från åsen (”ridge” på engelska) av bakåtväxande päls på hundens rygg och det land där rasen först registrerades, Rhodesia (nuvarande Zimbabwe). Till Sverige kom den första ridgebacken 1936, men det var först på 1960-talet som rasen etablerades på allvar.
