Propofol är ett kortverkande anestesiläkemedel för intravenöst bruk, som ger snabbt insomnande och uppvaknande, med betydligt mindre risk för illamående än de flesta andra anestesimedel. Propofol har en bieffekt som måste beaktas, nämligen lokal smärta från kärlet där injektionen sker.
Är propofol narkotika?
Narkotikaklassade läkemedel samt propofol ska enligt gällande föreskrifter förvaras oåtkomligt för obehöriga. Gällande narkotikaklassade läkemedel ska de även förvaras så att risken för olovlig befattning med narkotikan undanröjs. I allmänna råd rekommenderas det att samtliga läkemedel förvaras i ett låsbart utrymme.

How many mg of propofol can you give a patient?
Do not exceed 67 mcg/kg/minute (4 mg/kg/hour) IV unless benefits outweigh risks. Bolus administration of propofol 10 to 20 mg/dose IV should only be used to rapidly increase sedation in patients who are not at risk for hypotension.
What are the side effects of propofol?
a light-headed feeling (like you might pass out) even after feeling awake; severe pain or discomfort where the injection is given. Common propofol side effects may include: slight burning or stinging around the IV needle. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. How is propofol injected?
Propofol is injected into a vein through an IV. A healthcare provider will give you this injection. You will relax and fall asleep very quickly after propofol is injected. Your breathing, blood pressure, oxygen levels, kidney function, and other vital signs will be watched closely while you are under the effects of propofol.
