Varför får man diabetes insipidus?

Diabetes insipidus (DI) orsakas oftast av brist på ADH från hypofysen och kallas då neurogen eller central DI. Mindre vanligt är nefrogen DI, orsakad av minskad receptorokänslighet för ADH i njurarna. Båda tillstånden orsakar polyuri och sekundärt till det ökad törst och polydipsi.
