Vad är GCS?
Glasgow Coma Scale – GCS – är en internationellt använd skala för bedömning av medvetandegrad. Den används i vetenskapliga publikationer. Skalan består av tre tester, ögonöppning, verbalt svar och motoriskt svar.
Varför blir man medvetslös?
Medvetslöshet kan ha många olika orsaker. MIDAS är en förkortning av begynnelsebokstäverna för en del av dem: Hjärnhinneinflammation (Meningit), Förgiftning (Intoxikation), Diabetes, Bristande andning/syresättning (Andningsinsufficiens).

How do you calculate the Glasgow score for a patient?
To calculate a patient’s GCS, first score the patient on each of the three main areas. Once a number has been determined, add theses to create the sum which is the patient’s Glasgow score.

GCS – Glasgow Coma Scale Med hjälp av GCS kan du bedöma hur och om patienten öppnar ögonen vid tilltal samt patientens motoriska och verbala respons. En patient som är helt medveten och som kan samarbeta kan ges max 15 poäng. Om poängen är under 3 innebär det att patienten är medvetslös.
