Vad är Ranula?
A form of retention cyst of the floor of the mouth, usually due to obstruction of the ducts of the submaxillary or sublingual glands, presenting a slowly enlarging painless deep burrowing mucocele of one side of the mouth. It is also called sublingual cyst and sublingual ptyalocele.

What does a retention mucocele look like?
A retention mucocele occurs when a salivary duct is blocked, leading to the appearance of a swelling. This appears on examination as an epithelial-lined cyst of mucus. It is less common, and is more likely to be seen on the upper lip, hard palate, floor of the mouth, and the maxillary sinus.

Mucocele also called mucous cyst or mucous retention cyst, is a painless and harmless, fluid-containing (cyst-like) swelling of your lip or mouth lining (mucosa) due to mucus from the small salivary glands of the mouth leaking into the soft tissue, usually from injury (trauma) or blockage of the gland.
Can a mucocele go away on its own?
A mucocele or mucous cyst often can be left alone. Many mucoceles will go away on their own in 3–6 weeks. It usually will rupture on its own. Mucus-retention cysts often last longer.
