Vad gör PTH?
Bisköldkörtlarna producerar ett peptidhormon som kallas för parathormon (bisköldkörtelhormon) och som reglerar kalciumhalten i blodet och den extracellulära vätskan. Hormonet verkar huvudsakligen på skelettet och njurarna. Bisköldkörtelhormon påverkar också tarmen via D-vitamin.

PTH, also known as parathormone, is made by your parathyroid glands. These are four pea-sized glands in your neck. PTH controls the level of calcium in the blood. Calcium is a mineral that keeps your bones and teeth healthy and strong. It’s also essential for the proper functioning of your nerves, muscles, and heart.

What is the mechanism of action of PTH?
PTH is secreted in response to low blood serum calcium (Ca2+) levels. PTH indirectly stimulates osteoclast activity within bone marrow, in an effort to release more ionic calcium (Ca2+) into the blood to elevate serum calcium levels.
Where is PTH produced in the body?
PTH is produced by four button-sized parathyroid glands that are located in the neck behind the thyroid gland. Normally, these glands secrete PTH into the bloodstream in response to low blood calcium levels. The hormone works in three ways to help raise blood calcium levels back to normal (two are direct and one is indirect):
