Vem upptäckte gorillan?
Vetenskaplig upptäckt För västvärlden blev släktet känt 1846 då gorillor observerades av den amerikanske missionären Wilson. Släktet beskrevs vetenskapligt 1853 av Isidore Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire. Den förste europé som observerade gorillor i naturen och även sköt en gorilla var von Koppenfels 1874.
Kan gorillor simma?
Varför måste vi lära oss att simma? Generellt har de djur som riskerar att hamna i vatten eller korsa en alltför djup flod en medfödd förmåga att simma – hästar, kor, grisar, hundar, katter och så vidare. Men schimpanser och gorillor som ramlar i vattnet gör inga försök att simma, de drunknar.
Kan man simma utan ytspänning?
Det är dock inte bara vatten som har ytspänning. Fenomenet finns mer eller mindre hos alla vätskor. Men hos vatten är den särskilt stor, mycket på grund av de starka krafterna som håller ihop vattenmolekyler. Vi kan dock ”störa” denna förmåga genom att exempelvis tillsätta ett par droppar diskmedel.
