Vem skapade amish?
Anabaptiströrelsen som etablerades i Europa på 1500-talet var upphovet till många kristna samfund, bland annat mennoniterna. Jakob Amman grundade år 1693 amishrörelsen som är en utbrytargrupp från mennonitkyrkan. Under 1500- och 1600-talen fick amishanhängarna utstå kraftiga förföljelser, på grund av sina åsikter.
Får amish dricka alkohol?
Enligt reglerna får de inte dricka alkohol, te eller kaffe. Eller nyttja tobak. De får inte ha sex om de inte är gifta och de måste lova att alltid tala sanning.
Får man lämna amish?
Amishfolket har en väldigt liten kontakt med folk utanför sina egna samhällen, man tar avstånd från det moderna samhället. Man betonar istället familjegemenskapen. Amish bedriver inte mission. Skälet till detta är att man inte vill utsätta sig för den risk att utomstående kan påverka kyrkans lära och seder.
