Hur fungerar ett golvur?
Golvur är ett ur gjort för att stå på golvet. Ett exempel är moraklockor. Klockfodralets höga tomma ”mage” ger plats för långa lodlinor vilket innebär att man slipper dra upp klockan så ofta. Golvuret var engelsk uppfinning, av urmakaren William Clement, runt 1670.

Hur funkar pendelur?
Funktion. Pendelurens drivkraft är antingen en spänd fjäder eller en fallande vikt (lodet), som sätter valsen och därigenom hela urverket i rörelse. Eftersom lodet verkar oavbrutet och således förorsakar en i hastighet tilltagande rörelse, måste man använda en hämmande kraft, en regulator, och därtill tjänar pendeln.

The Seth Thomas Clock Company was organized as a joint stock corporation on May 3, 1853 to succeed the earlier clockmaking operation of the founder. Seth Thomas (1785-1859) had been manufacturing clocks at the site since 1814. Seth’s first wife was Philinda Tuttle; they married in the early 1800s and had a daughter, Philinda.

In 1853 Mr. Thomas incorporated the Seth Thomas Clock Company, so that the business would outlive him. Mr. Thomas died in 1859, and Plymouth Hollow was renamed Thomaston in his honor in 1865. Mr. Thomas was very conservative, and after his death many new styles of clocks were introduced by his sons. Regulator clocks were introduced in 1860.
How do you read a Seth Thomas clock date?
Many Seth Thomas clocks from 1881 to 1918 have a date code stamped in ink on the case back or bottom. Usually, the year is done in reverse, followed by a letter A—L representing the month.
