What is DLP (Digital Light Processing)?
DLP (”Digital Light Processing”) is a proprietary technology developed by Texas Instruments. It works quite differently than LCD. Instead of having glass panels through which light is passed, the DLP chip is a reflective surface made up of thousands (or millions) of tiny mirrors. Each mirror represents a single pixel.
What is the native contrast ratio of a DLP monitor?
Native contrast ratios of 1080p DLP chips were at best around 1200:1. With the newer 4K DLP chips, that has dropped to around 900:1 at best due to there needing to be more dead space between the mirrors due to the increased mirror counts. 3LCD on the other hand such as the Epson 5040 has a native contrast of about 4300:1.
Why is 3LCD not as bright as single-chip DLP?
