Kvitten växer inte naturligt i Skandinavien, men odlas sedan länge i parker och trädgårdar i Danmark och södra Sverige (växtzon I och II). Släktingen rosenkvitten kan odlas något längre norrut. Den kvitten som ibland går att hitta i affärer är dock oftast importerad från medelhavsområdet.
Vem uppfann marmelad?
De första beläggen på att marmelad förtärts i Storbritannien kommer från 1480, när importen blev så stor att den började bokföras i hamnarna. Från Frankrike är det första belägget från 1573.
